How it works

From the US prescribing label for the same active substance (Warfarin Sodium). It describes the substance, not this exact product.

12 CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY 12.1 Mechanism of Action Warfarin acts by inhibiting the synthesis of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors, which include Factors II, VII, IX, and X, and the anticoagulant proteins C and S.

Vitamin K is an essential cofactor for the post ribosomal synthesis of the vitamin K-dependent clotting factors.

The shape is a standard model drawn from the two times above, not a measurement. How fast a medicine acts and wears off also depends on the dose, the form and the person.
How the body breaks it down

Warfarin is stereoselectively metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 (CYP450) microsomal enzymes to inactive hydroxylated metabolites (predominant route) and by reductases to reduced metabolites (warfarin alcohols) with minimal anticoagulant activity.

How it leaves the body

Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
