12 CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY 12.1 Mechanism of Action Rocuronium bromide is a nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent with a rapid to intermediate onset depending on dose and intermediate duration.
It acts by competing for cholinergic receptors at the motor end-plate.
Studies of distribution, metabolism, and excretion in cats and dogs indicate that rocuronium is eliminated primarily by the liver.

- Rocuronium bromide is contraindicated in patients known to have hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to rocuronium bromide or other neuromuscular blocking agents [see Warnings and Precautions ( 5.2 )].
- Hypersensitivity (e.g., anaphylaxis) to rocuronium bromide or other neuromuscular blocking agents.
The most common adverse reactions (2%) are transient hypotension and hypertension.
