Warnings and precautions

  • Consulte a su médico, farmacéutico o enfermero antes de empezar a tomar olanzapina.
  • El uso de olanzapina en pacientes de edad avanzada con demencia no está recomendado, debido a que puede causar efectos secundarios graves.
  • Medicamentos de este tipo pueden provocar movimientos inusuales, sobre todo en la cara o en la lengua. Si le pasara esto después de haber tomado olanzapina , dígaselo a su médico.
  • Muy raramente, medicamentos de este tipo producen una combinación de fiebre, respiración acelerada, sudoración, rigidez muscular y un estado de obnubilación o somnolencia. Si le ocurriera esto, póngase de inmediato en contacto con su médico.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

  • Si está embarazada o en periodo de lactancia, cree que podría estar embarazada o tiene intención de quedarse embarazada, consulte a su médico antes de utilizar este medicamento.
  • No debe tomar este medicamento cuando esté dando el pecho ya que pequeñas cantidades de olanzapina pueden pasar a la leche materna.
  • Pueden darse los siguientes síntomas en recién nacidos de madres que han utilizado olanzapina en el último trimestre (últimos tres meses del embarazo): temblor, rigidez muscular y/o debilidad, somnolencia, agitación, problemas de respiración y dificultad en la alimentación. Si su bebé presenta cualquiera de estos síntomas es posible que necesite ponerse en contacto con su médico.

Other medicines

Solo use otras medicinas al mismo tiempo que olanzapina , si su médico se lo autoriza. Es posible que sienta cierta sensación de sueño si combina olanzapina con antidepresivos o medicamentos para la ansiedad o que ayuden a dormir (tranquilizantes).

Driving and using machines

Existe el riesgo de sufrir somnolencia cuando esté tomando olanzapina . Si esto ocurre, no conduzca ni maneje herramientas o máquinas. Informe a su médico.

Side effects

  • Al igual que todos los medicamentos, este medicamento puede producir efectos adversos, aunque no todas las personas los sufran.
  • Informe a su médico inmediatamente si tiene:
  • movimiento inusual (efecto adverso frecuente que puede afectar hasta 1 de cada 10 personas), principalmente de la cara o la lengua;

How to store it

  • Mantener este medicamento fuera de la vista y del alcance de los niños.
  • No utilice este medicamento después de la fecha de caducidad que aparece en el envase. La fecha de caducidad es el último día del mes que se indica.
  • Conservar en el envase original para protegerlo de la luz y la humedad.
