What it is for
- Raloxifene is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. A significant reduction in the incidence of vertebral, but not hip fractures has been demonstrated. When determining the choice of raloxifene or other therapies, including oestrogens, for an individual postmenopausal woman, consideration should be given to menopausal symptoms, effects on uterine and breast tissues, and cardiovascular risks and benefits.

How it works
From the US prescribing label for the same active substance (Raloxifene Hydrochloride). It describes the substance, not this exact product.
Raloxifene is an estrogen agonist/antagonist, commonly referred to as a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM).
The biological actions of raloxifene are largely mediated through binding to estrogen receptors.
No other metabolites have been detected, providing strong evidence that raloxifene is not metabolized by cytochrome P450 pathways.
Excretion — Raloxifene is primarily excreted in feces, and less than 0.2% is excreted unchanged in urine.
Administration of raloxifene HCl with a standardized, high-fat meal increases the absorption of raloxifene (C max 28% and AUC 16%), but does not lead to clinically meaningful changes in systemic exposure.
