Emtricitabine is an antiretroviral drug [see Microbiology ( 12.4 )].
NA = Not Applicable Patients with Hepatic Impairment The pharmacokinetics of FTC have not been studied in subjects with hepatic impairment; however, FTC is not significantly metabolized by liver enzymes, so the impact of liver impairment should be limited.
Effects of Food on Oral Absorption Emtricitabine capsules may be taken with or without food.

WARNING: POSTTREATMENT ACUTE EXACERBATION OF HEPATITIS B Severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis B (HBV) have been reported in patients who are coinfected with HIV-1 and HBV and have discontinued e mtricitabine.
- Emtricitabine is contraindicated in patients with previously demonstrated hypersensitivity to any of the components of the products.
Most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥10%) are headache, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, depression, insomnia, abnormal dreams, rash, abdominal pain, asthenia, increased cough, and rhinitis.
