How it works

From the US prescribing label for the same active substance (Loperamide Hydrochloride). It describes the substance, not this exact product.

In vitro and animal studies show that loperamide hydrochloride acts by slowing intestinal motility and by affecting water and electrolyte movement through the bowel.

Loperamide binds to the opiate receptor in the gut wall.

How the body breaks it down

In vitro loperamide is metabolized mainly by cytochrome P450 (CYP450) isozymes, CYP2C8 and CYP3A4, to form- N-demethyl loperamide.

How to take it

These directions are for this exact strength and form. Another one is different.

  • drink plenty of clear fluids to help prevent dehydration caused by diarrhea
  • find right dose on chart. If possible, use weight to dose; otherwise use age.
  • shake well before using
  • use only enclosed dosing cup specifically designed for use with this product. Do not use any other dosing device.

  • Allergy alert: Do not use if you have ever had a rash or other allergic reaction to loperamide HCl
  • Heart alert: Taking more than directed can cause serious heart problems or death
