How it works

From the US prescribing label for the same active substance (METOPROLOL TARTRATE). It describes the substance, not this exact product.

Metoprolol is a beta 1 -selective (cardioselective) adrenergic receptor blocking agent.

This preferential effect is not absolute, however, and at higher plasma concentrations, metoprolol also inhibits beta 2 -adrenoreceptors, chiefly located in the bronchial and vascular musculature.

How it leaves the body

In most subjects (extensive metabolizers), less than 5% of an oral dose and less than 10% of an intravenous dose are excreted as unchanged drug in the urine.
