How the body breaks it down

Quetiapine is unlikely to interfere with the metabolism of drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes.

With food

The bioavailability of quetiapine is marginally affected by administration with food, with C max and AUC values increased by 25% and 15%, respectively.

Serious warning

WARNING: INCREASED MORTALITY IN ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH DEMENTIA-RELATED PSYCHOSIS; and SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND BEHAVIORS Increased Mortality in Elderly Patients with Dementia-Related Psychosis Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death [ see Warnings and Precautions (5.1) ].

Must not be used by
  • Hypersensitivity to quetiapine or to any excipients in the quetiapine formulation.
  • Anaphylactic reactions have been reported in patients treated with quetiapine.
  • Known hypersensitivity to quetiapine or any components in the formulation.
Most common side effects

Most common adverse reactions (incidence ≥ 5% and twice placebo): Adults: somnolence, dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, asthenia, abdominal pain, postural hypotension, pharyngitis, weight gain, lethargy, ALT increased, dyspepsia ( 6.1 ).
