How it works

From the US prescribing label for the same active substance (Magnesium Sulfate in Dextrose). It describes the substance, not this exact product.

Magnesium prevents seizures in patients with preeclampsia and controls seizures in patients with eclampsia by blocking neuromuscular transmission and decreasing the amount of acetylcholine liberated at the end plate by the motor nerve impulse.

Magnesium has a depressant effect on the central nervous system [see Drug Interactions (7) ].
